Origin | Italy, Piedmont, Barbera d'Asti |
Brand | Guasti Clemente |
Formed of only Barbera grapes harvested from the Cascina Boschetto Vecchio
estate and its eight hectares of vineyards, this 2007 “Boschetto Vecchio” Barbera
from Guasti Clemete was matured for 18 months in oak casks ahead of bottling.
Further maturation in bottle in the Guasti Clemente cellars has since been enforced
ahead of release. This Barbera is much older than most other current releases of
Barbera from Asti and this shows in the color of this wine: A fairly intense garnet
hue.
Dry, medium bodied and with a great persistent of slightly savory mixed cherry fruit
flavours throughout, this 2007 “Boschetto Vecchio” Barbera from Guasti Clemete
certainly proves that Barbera can be more of a “serious” wine than some would
believe. With earthy and balsamic nuances poking through the elegant fruit of this
wine, a subtle wood-derived spice persists into the long finish. The Barbera grape’s
traditionally high level of acidity remains present, but is nicely integrated and offset
by the depth of flavor on display.
