As opaquely named lieux-dits go, Chiens-Chiens ranks near the top of the list. This site has borne this puzzling name for as long as anyone can remember, and what, "Dogs-Dogs" could have originally meant is pure conjecture. What it means today however, is an elegant Chinon from sandy tuffeau soils sporting dark-fruit flavors and a silky texture -hardly what we'd call a dog.

Dark purple. Blackberry and cranberry aromas, plus a bit of pepper and a fresh green note. Lots of bright cranberry at first on the palate, then ripe blueberry and plum as it glides from midpalate and finishes long and chalky, with a hint of graphite. Attractive and drinkable. From 30-year-old sandy tuffeau soils, aged 12 months on lees in 500-liter barrels, then four months in tank.
