Montepeloso A Quo 2012
James SucklingIntense aromas of lavender and sea rosemary with dark fruits. Full body, firm tannins and a blueberry, lemon-rind and currant character. Better in 2015.
VinousDark red fruits, earthiness, tobacco and smoke come together in the 2012 A Quo, Montepeloso's entry-level red. There is plenty of the estate's trademark richness in the glass, but in a slightly more lifted style that makes the wine accessible young. The flavor profile is dominated by herbal, brambly notes from the Montepulciano and Sangiovese, but the sense of palate weight is pure Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a terrific showing from Montepeloso and proprietor Fabio Chiarellotto.
