Paul Achs St. Laurent 2012
Paul Achs returned to the family winery in Gols in 1991 after spending time in California where he learned to produce red wines at the highest level of quality. Ninety percent of the production is dedicated to red wine and all 58 acres are farmed biodynamically. Paul Achs wines are characterized by elegance and finesse.
The Parndorfer Platte is a south-facing escarpment of complex soils situated near the villages of Gols and Mönchoff and is the source of Paul Achs’ St. Laurent. Here, the diversity of soil combines with a southern exposure and the warm Pannonian climate to give wines of profound expression and longevity.
St. Laurent is a red grape most likely of Austrian origin where it has been cultivated since the 19th century although its genetic ancestry is still uncertain. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and is aged for 12 months in a combination of used 228 liter French and Austrian oak barrels.
