San Felice Chianti Classico Riserva Il Grigio 2013
This is maturing nicely, with woodsy, sweet cherry and mushroom flavors backed by an edge of dusty tannins. Ready to enjoy, but there's no rush. Drink now through 2021. 17,500 cases made.
I am normally very enamored by this wine, but I can't help but notice that the 2013 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Grigio shows a touch of volatile acidity that subtracts more than it adds to the wine's general sense of balance and wholesomeness. There are clear aromas of dried cherry skin (that to my palate are a red flag for volatile acidity), candied orange peel and tea bag. You don't get any of these characteristics in the Gran Selezione edition of this same wine and I am inclined to recommend that one instead.
