Domenico Clerico Barolo Aeroplanservaj 2013

This wine was not produced in 2012. The excellent 2013 Barolo Aeroplan Servaj (with fruit from the clay soils of Baudana in Serralunga d'Alba) is a powerful, generous and dramatic wine that promises a very long drinking future ahead. The fruit is dark, rich and exuberant. There is a touch of black cherry sweetness that is very specific to this growing site and the heavier soils that characterize it. At this young stage, the wine is slightly austere and rigid, especially in terms of mouthfeel. This is completely expected, especially in a cool vintage such as 2013. The wine needs time to unfold and blossom like a rose. Drink Date: 2022-2045.

A spicy style, this offers cinnamon, clove and tree bark notes that complement the fading cherry and plum flavors. On the rustic side, with burly tannins and spice accents. Best from 2023 through 2042. 500 cases made, 150 cases imported.

This opens with tobacco, cedar and dark berry aromas. The dense tannic palate offers toasted oak, prune, espresso and licorice alongside tightly knit, close-grained tannins that need to unwind. Drink after 2023.
