Louis Jadot Puligny Montrachet les Folatieres Des Heritiers 2019
|Region||France, Burgundy, Puligny-Montrachet|
A slew of citrus zest and candied lemon here, together with hints of pineapple and vanilla oak. The racy, mineral acidity gives a jolt of real energy. Plenty of fine tannins that are equally focused, whipping the finish along at a brisk clip, as it rides off into the distance. Drink or hold.
The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot), which derives from lieu-dit En la Richarde, exhibits aromas of pear, orange oil, white flowers and toasted bread. Medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's satiny and complete, with lively acids and a bright, mineral finish. This is very promising.
This domain-owned parcel is at the top of Folatieres in the lieu-dit of En Richard, where the elevation and the thin soils produce a wine that leads with lively citrus aromas and a hint of spice from the fermentation and ageing in cask (one-third new). The texture on the palate is incisive and lively, but there is enough substance that the wine seems perfectly balanced.
The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru, which comes from the high part of the slope in the lieu-dit of En La Richards, has a lovely bouquet of orange blossom and crushed limestone aromas, showing very fine terroir expression. The palate is well balanced with grapefruit and mandarin on the entry. The palate does not quite possess the same breeding as the nose – perhaps a little simpler on the finish compared to the Clos de la Garenne that preceded it. Maybe it will muster more nuance with barrel age.
