Benanti Etna Rosso 2016
|Region||Italy, Sicily, Etna|
Luminous, very pretty deep red color. Fresh red cherry, berries and flint on the enticing nose. Then crisp and juicy with lively herbal and floral nuances to the red cherry fruit flavors. Finishes long and vibrant with hints of fresh ginger and minerals. A lovely entry-level wine.
A fine and harmonious red, with a bright tang of acidity and smoke-tinged minerality, offering a creamy mix of crushed cherry, pomegranate and grilled thyme flavors, expanding on the palate and firmed by supple tannins. Drink now through 2023. 5,832 cases made.
Truffle, crushed mint and red berry aromas mingle with a whiff of wild rose. The aromas carry through to the light-bodied, racy palate along with white pepper and a citrus note. A hint of oyster shell gives it a tangy finish.
The 2016 Etna Rosso is a blend of 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio. The grapes were fermented separately. The Nerello Mascalese is aged in barrique for ten months, whereas the Nerello Cappuccio only sees stainless steel. This vintage is slightly lacking in intensity. You get aromas of wild berry, licorice and tar, but the volume is turned down a notch or two. Some 70,000 bottles were produced.
