Ettore Germano is a true protagonist of Serralunga d'Alba, and this wine shows expertise and passion for territory. The 2016 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba delivers the characteristics one would associate with this growing area that is associated with some of the most structured and powerful Baroli, thanks to the unique calcareous clay soils found here. You get dark fruit, spice, tar and lots of tangy licorice or aniseed. Those licorice aromas veer toward medicinal with balsam herb and camphor ash. This vintage has it all wrapped up into one neat package. Just give it a bit more time to soften. Some 9,500 bottles will be released in September 2020.

Woodland-berry, iris, menthol and dark-spice aromas emerge in the glass. The structured linear palate shows its Serralunga heritage as well as elegance, featuring Maraca cherry, raspberry, licorice and a hint of exotic incense accompanied by firm refined tannins. Drink 2024-2036.

Sergio Germano's 2016 Barolo del Commune di Serralunga d'Alba is soft and fruity yet classically leaning in build, which makes it extremely appealing and an excellent choice for near-term drinking. Sweet red berry fruit, spice and dried flowers all grace this beautifully perfumed, gracious Barolo.
