Henri Boillot Volnay Les Caillerets 2019

One of my favorite wines in the cellar is the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets, a lovely cuvée that wafts from the glass with notes of plums, rose petals, sweet berry fruit, raw cocoa and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, bright and lively, it's sapid and concentrated, with refined tannins and a long, saline finish.

From 0.6ha of 50-year-old vines in Caillerets, fermented in small casks (all new). The wood does not dominate the wine, which delivers fresh red berry fruit, some limestone-driven minerality and a lively texture on the palate. With a wonderful balance between the acidity and extract, in my view this is among the best of the reds from the Côte de Beaune. (Drink between 2024-2034)
