Sourced from 20 different parcels in Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil, the 2019 Hurluberlu represents the producer's spirit, which often seems to be lost in the clouds-that's why the locals call him "l'Hurluberlu," which translates to "scatterbrained." Filled into a white glass bottle, the 2019 Hurluberlu is made like a primeur and opens with an intense and spicy, still reductive yet not overly fruity bouquet with aromas of black olives, black fruits and raw meat. On the palate, this is a fruity, silky-textured, fresh and charming Cab Franc with fleshy fruit, fruity tannins and a still vivacious CO2 acidity. Not very complex or substantial but intense and chewy, this is an excellent, lighter yet characterful red wine to enjoy slightly chilled and preferably decanted. Bottled as Vin de France with 12.5% alcohol. Tasted in May 2021.
