Monica Larner writes in Wine Advocate: "Located in Le Fioraie on the northwest side of Castellina in Chianti, it farms 12 hectares of vines carved out from the surrounding woods and olive groves. Ten hectares are planted to Sangiovese, although the estate also has smaller sites of Colorino, Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot at a breezy 380 to 480 meters in altitude with steep slopes in some places. In fact, the estate name, Piemaggio, may be a combination of the local word for church ("Pieve") and the highest hill ("maggiore"). The estate's logo shows three women, or flower sellers, for Le Fioraie. Legends says that a monk on pilgrimage fainted from heat exhaustion and was revived by the three flower sellers who offered him a glass of wine. Years later, he returned to the site and founded a small church in gratitude." (03/2021)

Bright Red Fruit, cedar, tobacco, white pepper and dried herbs abound, all framed by incisive tannins that give the wine shape as well as energy. It's the sort of wine that is NOT very common in Chianti Classico these days. Readers need to be prepared for a bright, acid-driven Chianti Classico build on super-classic lines
