Vinified with 50% whole bunches in 3,000-liter oak casks and bottled in early June 2020, the 2019 Blaufränkisch Kalkstein is sourced from the lower plots on the Leithagebirge. The wine is clear, fresh and fine on the spicy nose of dark berries and cherries. On the palate, this is a round and intense, silky textured and pretty charming but well-structured red with refreshingly grippy tannins that come entirely from the berries, whereas the vivacious acidity is the result of the carbonic fermentation. Very stimulating style. Excellent astringency. 12% alcohol.
