Villa Wolf Pinot Noir Rosé 2018The Pfalz (aka ‘Palatinate’) region is in the Rhine river valley in southwest Germany, directly north of France’s Alsace region. The low-lying Haardt mountains protect the area from cold, wet Atlantic weather, making it one of the warmer and drier areas of Germany. Wine grapes do quite well here where it is possible to achieve full ripeness in every vintage. The predominant soil type in this area is well-drained, weathered sandstone. It produces wines with a fruit-driven purity and a stony structure. The Villa Wolf Pinot Noir Rosé is made with fruit from vineyards farmed expressly for the purpose of producing a rosé. Only perfectly ripe , healthy grapes are selected. Upon harvest the fruit is given a brief maceration (four to six hours) to extract a lovely salmon color from the Pinot Noir grapes. The resulting wine is light and refreshing, with deliciously bright fruit flavors and a clean, zippy finish.

Chateau Mourgues du Gres Costières de Nimes Les Galets Rose 201950% Syrah, 40% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre. From vineyards blanketed in galets, the smooth round stones of Châteauneuf-du-Pape fame, comes a vivacious, garnet-colored rosé with bright red fruit notes. Galets Rosé gets a few hours maceration, 8 hours for Grenache and 2 for Syrah giving the wine a darker color than the Fleur d'Eglantine cuvee and a bit more spice and structure. Mourgues du Grès is recognized as one of the very best estates in the Costières de Nimes in the Revue de Vin de France, Guide Hachette, and Gilbert et Gaillard. Each bottle shows the emblem of the sundial that is on the wall of the winery, with the words "Sine Sole Nihil," which translates to "There is nothing without sunshine." For Mourgues du Gres, this symbolizes the maturity and harmony of the wines. The vineyards are located in the Mediterranean on the plateau of Beaucaire, where they benefit from both northern and southern sun exposure. The Rhône River is just a few miles away, and the vineyards are covered with galets, the same round flat stones that are famous in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The vineyards have been certified organic by EcoCert since the 2011 vintage, and meticulous care and attention are paid to these vines; overall management, including crop thinning and pruning, are all carried out by hand. In Provence, a 'Puech' means a small hill (or mountain), a 'Puech Haut' is a hill higher than the others. This position, 'on a hill higher than the others', is conducive to exceptional drainage for the vineyards. The clay and limestone soil is composed of boulders brought by the Rhone in the Quaternary and its plots reside on hillsides protected from excessive temperatures by the nearby Mediterranean Sea and winds including the Mistral, the north wine pervasive in the region.

The etymology of the grape variety gives a clue to the style; ‘pique’ implying the crispness and firmness, ‘poule’, rather more tangentially, hinting at soft and maternal qualities. The wine has fine coloring with hints of green. The chardonnay fruit for this wine comes from the Manciats' middle-aged vineyards in and around the village of Charnay. 100% hand-harvested grapes (a rarity in the region) and attention to detail at every level make this one of the purist, most satisfying white burgundies in its class. The nose is of ripe green apples with just a hint of citrus. Chateau du Glana Saint-Julien 2014Château Du Glana is located on the Route des Grands Vins running parallel to the Gironde estuary, between the towns of Beychevelle and Saint-Julien, opposite the famous Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. Château Du Glana was constructed in 1870 by Mr Nadeau, the city of Blaye's architect, for Mr Cayx. At about this time, a small (5 hectares) vineyard of gravelly soil was consolidated thanks to the purchase of several plots of land from neighbouring Château Saint-Pierre. After several other owners, Mr Gabriel Meffre bought Château Du Glana in 1961. He increased the vineyard to 43 hectares in the following years by acquiring several plots belonging to third growth Château Lagrange. Helped by his young sons Ludovic and Julien, Jean-Paul Meffre now looks after the estate. They are motivated by a major ambition: to achieve the estate's full potential. Surrounded by some of finest great growths in the Médoc, Château Du Glana has made tremendous strides in quality since 1999. Much thought has gone into making improvements over the past several years and the vineyard has been entirely renovated. Château Du Glana produces modern elegant wines of character reflecting the estate's superb terroir. The estate's completely restored buildings (vat room, grape reception area, ageing cellar, offices, and reception room), the immense care taken in the vineyard, and precious winemaking advice from Professor Denis Dubourdieu provide a sound equilibrium between modern methods and respect for tradition. Château Du Glana is thus a well-balanced, velvety, and complex wine enjoyable young, but also with excellent ageing potential (over ten years).

Chateau Charmail Haut Medoc 2015Charmail is on the banks of the Gironde River, which makes for milder temperatures and shelters it from really hard frosts in the winter, which can have disastrous effects on the vines. From the property we enjoy a truly magnificent view. The vineyard is made up of one single plot, which extends right to the water's edge. On some mornings, sunrise can be quite magical as the first light plays on the water the mist and the vines. “An ocean of vines coursing into the river; it's an amazing spectacle!” B. d’Halluin The estate is also ideally located on rolling slopes facing south, which contributes to grape ripening, while the vines are often exposed to light winds, which keeps fresh air circulating around their leaves and the fruit. History The name of the estate comes from its 16th century origins, when the Trevey de Charmail family settled in the Medoc. The property’s reputation really began to be known from the beginning of the 18th century. Since then vines have always been cultivated here. The strength of our terroir today comes from this history and the Medoc traditions. 1982 Olivier Sèze took over operations in 1982. In a few years, with his vision and thoroughness he managed to impose a distinct style of winemaking here and made Charmail one of the most valued wines bearing the Haut Medoc label. Vintage after vintage for nearly 30 years, he has made superbly well-balanced wines. 2008 Bernard d’Halluin, a guy from Lille in northern France, who was fed Bordeaux wine in his baby’s bottle made his dream come true of buying a wine estate. While looking for a property in the Bordeaux area, he fell in love with Charmail. Both he and Olivier share the same passion and complement each other admirably in the daily running of the estate. When the estate changed hands, new ambitions came to Charmail, such as enlarging the vineyard: 6 hectares (15 acres) were bought back in 2010 returning the vineyard to its original size. New buildings were also brought into use and new objectives were set for the work in the vines, while initiatives were taken to really promote Charmail wines at exhibitions and tastings.

Chateau Sansonnet Saint Emilion 2015Château Sansonnet is located at the very top of the Saint-Emilion plateau. Its exceptional soil consists of a thin layer of clay over limestone. The vineyard covers a single 7-hectare (17-acre) plot that surrounds the chateau. A dominant 85% proportion of Merlot is blended with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Its wine, which has great keeping potential, displays an intense ruby colour. When aired, it releases aromas of sour cherry and blackcurrant. Big on the attack, it evolves harmoniously on the palate towards an expression of fine tannins with a ripe fruit flavour.

Château-Gazin Pomerol 2015Feminine and seductive, due to the dominance of the Merlot, Château GAZIN's wines can be enjoyed after a few years in the bottle, but usually they are worth laying down for fifteen, twenty years or more. Their sumptuous generosity offers a wide aromatic range of red and black fruit which harmonizes with their intense crimson or garnet red colour. They typically offer hints of plum, chocolate, coffee or liquorice, with aromas of almonds, toast, tobacco and vanilla, and a minty freshness. With maturity they develop a spicy nose, with a hint of truffles, notes of undergrowth, game, fur and leather . The Château Gazin vineyards cover 64.2 acres in a single lot, with 56.8 acres under vines, located on the renowned clay-gravel plateau of Pomerol. The estate can produce up to 100,000 bottles a year. A second AOC Pomerol wine "l’Hospitalet de Gazin", was created in 1986 in order to reserve the best of the harvest for Château Gazin. The grapes are fermented in small cement vats. The wine is aged for 18 months in oak barrels (50% new) according to the Bordeaux tradition: malolactic fermentation in casks, rackings to separate the fine wine from the lees, fining with egg whites and, if necessary, light filtration.
Chateau Clerc Milon Pauillac 2015Showing a menthol, redcurrant bramble note on the nose, it also has a lovely mocha edge from the oak that adds complexity. The palate has a weight of fruit and flesh that so many wines in the Médoc seem to be lacking, while the tannins are fine with a sweetness that really adds to the mouthfeel. Plump, multi-layered fruit is joined by a lovely spicy edge to the creamy oak on the finish.

Clos L'Eglise Pomerol 2014The wine is made according to traditional methods. It is for this reason that Sylviane Garcin-Cathiard chose wooden vats for Clos L'Eglise. Each batch is treated separately in a thermostat-regulated vat of 60 hl. Manual pigeage has been re-introduced; the pulp and mass of skins, known as chapeau, floats to the top during fermentation and is punched down manually several times a day. The wine is left in fermenting vats for a long time, and malolactic fermentation is carried out in 100% new barrels. Ageing lasts between 16 to 18 months depending on the vintage.

Château Smith Haut Lafitte Pessac Leognan 2015Château Smith Haut Lafitte 2015 is a very dark red wine, almost black. The nose expresses a bouquet of black fruits and very freshred fruits. Through swirling, the nose appears more complex with notes of spices, cedar, liquorice associated with notes of violet and a touch of flint stone. The mouth is straightforward, dynamic, powerful, dense, classy. Tannins are concentrated, unctuous and silky. They give the wine great length and beautiful texture. We find again in mouth the crunchy and ripe fruits and an additional spicier dimension with liquorice, citron, clove and a wonderful finale of floral and mineral notes.
Chateau-Pape-Clément Pessac Leognan 2015Sight: A wine of good density ruby red, with brown, mahogany, biscuit hints. It has maintained its luster and clarity. The rim is fairly thick. The tears are fine, clear, abundant and regular. Smell: At once expressive, forthright and complex. There are notes of all families of fragrance: fruit, flowers, and spices. Taste: The attack is forthright, round and suave, soothing even. The intense aromas initially recall the complexity of the nose. There is leather and lightly charred wood, and roasted notes. The beauty of the vintage is revealed by its elegance rather than its full-flavor. The wine has an attractive aromatic range with a finish of remarkable elegance.
Château Beauséjour Duffau Lagarosse St. Emilion 2015From the 2015 vintage onward, a new "dress code"... Recognized as a Premier Grand Cru Classé from the origins of the Saint-Emilion Classification, Chateau Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse heirs has belonged to the family since 1847. For seven generations, the Duffau-Lagarrosse heirs have striven to sustain this vineyard, a seven-hectare jewel, ingrained on the slope, offering itself to the wind and the sun to conserve its renown. They count on an experienced team to conduct the necessary evolutions and elevate the wines of Chateau Beauséjour to the highest level. It is in this spirit that they asked Nicolas Thienpont and Stéphane Derenoncourt to accompany them beginning with the 2009 vintage.

Nose: Complex, pleasantly powerful, fruity, mineral, smoky, toasty notes, intense with good depth. Clean, pure, elegant and refined. Palate: Mellow, smooth attack, developing an elegant, refined tannin structure. The palate is powerful, rich and complex, suggesting excellent potential to improve with age. Concentrated, powerful aromatic profile with fruity, mineral and toasted notes. The overall impression is of good length and complexity; a charming wine that should age well.
Chateau Joinin Bordeaux 2016Chateau Joinin was owned by a single family for several generations before it was bought by Madame and Monsieur Mestreguilhem, owners of Chateau Pipeau in Saint-Emilion in 1989. Sixty one acres of vines, mostly Merlot, are planted on clay and limestone soil. In 2000 the Mestreguilhems built a new estate winery to improve and control the quality of their wines.

The nose opens with pure black fruit, a fusion of black cherry, cassis and blackberry jam aromas, with notes of mint, violets and undertones of tropical fruit. The palate is supported by a vibrant acidity and taut, wiry tannins that provide structure, texture and volume. The berry flavors carry into the long finish. A perfectly balanced Vintage Port. Food Pairings: Pairs well with blue cheeses like Stilton or Roquefort and desserts of dark chocolate or berries. Should be decanted before serving due to sediment.
Croft Vintage Port 2016 375mlIntense purple ruby core with vivid purple rim. The nose displays the ripe strawberry and blackcurrant fruitiness and resiny notes of rock rose and eucalyptus that are the essence of the Croft Vintage Port style. The palate opens with a surge of rich berry fruit flavour and is supported by a dense mesh of close-knit tannins. Although the wine displays some of the plump, rubenesque character of prior Croft vintages, the accent here is on symmetry and finesse. The characteristically exuberant fruit and heady herbal aromas are carefully modulated and the wine is classical in its proportions. An elegant and aromatic Vintage Port, perfectly poised between opulence and restraint.
Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port 2016 375mlDeep purple black with a narrow magenta rim. High notes of pure, intense woodland fruit with lively accents of green apple, fresh plum and raspberry. Around this core of bright, singing fruit is a heady aura of gumcistus and wine herbs. On a deeper register, exotic notes of cedarwood and jasmine provide an additional dimension of complexity. The wine has an attractive leanness and muscularity with sinewy, linear tannins that integrate seamlessly into the mid palate and then re-emerge to hold the wine in a confident grip. Energised by a racy acidity, the intense berry flavours continue to build into the long finish. Although the keynotes are refinement and poise, the wine displays the restrained vigour and stamina that are the hallmarks of the Taylor Fladgate style. Walnuts, blue veined and other richly flavoured cheeses are excellent accompaniments to Vintage Port; so too are dried fruits such as apricots or figs.
Dow's Vintage Port 2016In exceptional, classic years, Dow's declares a Vintage Port. The wine is aged for two years then bottled unfiltered, where it may age for 30 or more years. Dow's is renowned for its Vintage Ports' exceptional aging ability. Delicious with creamy blue cheeses like Stilton or Roquefort.
