The 2014 Barolo Mosconi is laced with the essence of smoke, gravel, mocha, melted road tar, plum, lavender and licorice. Ample and broad on the palate, with striking aromatic intensity, it is a wonderfully complete Barolo. Like all of the 2014s here, the Mosconi is distinguished by silky, super-polished tannins. There is much to like in this exotic, compelling Barolo from Conterno-Fantino.

Compared to the 2015 vintage that is totally focused on the primary fruit, the 2014 Barolo Mosconi Vigna Ped is a much drier expression with aromas of garden herb, eucalyptus, dried mint and medicinal herb. The wine shows abundant strength and power at this young age, but I'm not sure where its aging trajectory will take it given the lack of sweet fruit to carry it forward. Those dry tannins lead me to think this wine should be consumed within the next 10-20 years.

Elegant and beautifully defined by the pure cherry, black currant and floral aromas and flavors. Firmly structured, yet balanced, with a long, vibrant and mineral-tinged finish. Best from 2020 through 2032. 510 cases made, 250 cases imported.

Aromas of toasted oak, espresso and dried sage form the nose. The tightly wound palate evokes black cherry jam, coconut, mocha and licorice while astringent tannins dry out the finish.
