Tones of clove, bay leaf and sage ride over a core of big black fruit in this youthfully tannic wine. An accent of tobacco arises on the midpalate and leads to a robust, lasting peppery finish.

Offers a core of steeped black currant and licorice notes, picking up tobacco and minerally details on the sneakily long finish. Needs a touch of cellaring for this to drop its toast. Best from 2020 through 2022.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley was aged for 18 months in French and American oak (32% new) and contains 5% Petite Sirah. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps boldly forth with cedar and redcurrant scents over a cassis and black raspberry core with hints of bay leaves and lavender. Medium to full-bodied, firm and chewy, it has a lively line and great intensity, finishing with an herbal lift.
