A Barolo of high standing, both austere and complex. Deep red garnet in color. Delicately spiced bouquet (notes of eucalyptus, licorice and menthol), mature fruit (liqueur soaked cherries, blackberries and prunes) and hints of violets and medicinal herbs. Powerful on the palate, lightly acidic and fresh. Lasting finish. An aristocratic wine that finds its ideal match with game, jugged hare, braised beef, chamois, roe deer, wild boar, venison, and pigeon. Superb with dishes garnished with white truffles from Alba, like cardoon flan with fondue and duck ravioli..

Fruit for the Cordero di Montezemolo 2016 Barolo Enrico VI is drawn from a two-hectare parcel in Villero, in Castiglione Falletto. This subzone shows especially sharp and focused aromas in this gorgeous 2016 incarnation, and indeed, that brilliant linearity is what pops out first and foremost when you evaluate the bouquet of this iconic Barolo. Wild cherry, summer plum, white stone, limestone, cola and camphor ash emerge with balanced intensity. The Enrico VI is framed by very fine and silky tannins that add a firm backbone. This wine is tightly stitched together and ready for extra cellar time.

The 2016 Barolo Enrico VI is bright, translucent and super-expressive. Freshly cut flowers, mint, pine, spice and sweet red cherry are all beautifully lifted. Medium in body and precise, with stunning nuance, the 2016 is a positively stellar wine that shows the more refined side of the Villero cru. Villero Barolos can be a bit tough, especially in the early going, but the 2016 Enrico VI is a super elegant and classy exception.

Aromas of baked plum, French oak and underbrush shape the nose along with whiffs of iris. Densely concentrated, the enveloping palate features fleshy black cherry, licorice and coconut alongside, velvety, close-grained tannins and the warmth of evident alcohol. Drink 2022-2028.
